DR. RIAZ AHMED SHAIKH IN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Associate Professor, Biztek participated in International Conference Organized by European Research Group of Military and Society- ERGOMAS held in University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia 8th – 11th April, 2010.

University of Ljubljana is the top most university among the universities of Slovenia. It is ranked at 151 in the world ranking and 41 among the European Union’s university’s ranking.

ERGOMAS is the European Research Group on Military and Society, founded in 1986. It is an international scientific association, based originally in Europe but now open to all scholars from around the world, devoted to collaborative research on military and society.

ERGOMAS is a public, non-profit, politically and ideologically independent professional organization of scientists. Its purposes are pursued through the activity of Working Groups and the Biennial conference.

The meeting included following agenda: -
1) Presentation of papers on recent public opinion data and trends at the national and cross-national levels.
2) Presentation of papers resulting from analyses of mass media reports on security and especially military topics.
3) Discussion on methodological issues in the field of public opinion surveys and mass media analyses.
4) Preparation for publication of monograph as the result of the scientific meeting.
5) Discussion on future cross-national survey. Dr. Riaz presented his paper in the 5th session of the conference and the topic was National Interests- Clash of Civil- Military leadership and public Debates on Media in Pakistan. He was the only scholar from Pakistan who participated in this conference. Many scholars of international repute participated in this conference indluding Germany, France, Slovakia, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Israel, and India.
